A Cal Fire engine and a car collided in the Napa County area of California on Tuesday, June 30th. The accident report released by the California Highway Patrol placed Vanessa Espinosa, 22, of Vallejo, as the driver behind the private vehicle.
The fire engine was reportedly traveling with its red lights and siren activated when it collided with the victim’s car at the intersection of Highway 221 and Streblow Drive around noon. The preliminary investigation uncovered that Espinosa drove a Toyota Camry sedan northbound on the highway.
The woman attempted to make a left-hand turn on Streblow when the fire engine struck her on the right driver’s side. The fire vehicle had just left the Monticello Road Cal Fire station and was en route to an out-of-county fire in Clayton. The collision’s impact left Espinosa with severe injuries, and medics took her to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The three occupants of the fire engine did not sustain any wound from the collision. The latter led to the highway’s closure until about 5 p.m. when the CHP finished collecting evidence and clearing the scene. The investigation to determine liability is ongoing.
When a motor vehicle collision occurs, liability plays a crucial role in determining who should face a criminal trial or (and) a civil lawsuit. The latter means that the victim who does not share any contributory negligence would get compensation for the loss suffered due to the accident.
