An accident report update released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner named Jose Aguirre, 38, as the fatal victim of an accident in Fontana, California. The coroner provided the update on Thursday, July 2nd.
The man died on Wednesday, July 1st, after his motorcycle collided with a car on Foothill Boulevard. The report about the crash came in at about 9:47 p.m., and the preliminary investigation revealed that it was between a Nissan Altima and a Suzuki motorcycle.
The unnamed driver of the Nissan headed west on Foothill Boulevard when he made a left-hand turn in front of the eastbound Suzuki. Aguirre could not avoid the car in time, and he crashed into the passenger side. The man sustained severe wounds, and medics transported him to Kaiser Foundation Hospital, where he died at about 10:37 p.m.
The Fontana Police Department is looking into the accident to determine on whose side the liability lies. Their findings would help them decide whether or not the driver of the Nissan should face charges.
Accidents of this nature fall under California’s failure to yield laws as provided under the vehicle code. The law states that a driver about to turn should yield to the one driving straight if there’s no stop sign preventing the second driver from going through.
Also, a driver on the left must always yield to the one on the right. Failure to obey these laws is punishable with a fine and points on the offender’s driver’s license.
