Tori Haywood Killed In 3-Vehicle Wreck Saturday In Palmdale

State of California authorities have identified one of two people killed in a three-vehicle wreck last week that injured five others.

Forty-two-year-old Tori A. Haywood, of Smithville, Tenn., died at the scene of the wreck, which occurred July 2 on Palmdale Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol. Car accident reports available Monday evening do not provide identifying information for the other driver killed in the crash.

Authorities said Haywood was driving west on Palmdale Boulevard when an eastbound driver, who was not identified in car accident reports, swerved into her lane. The sedan crashed head-on with Haywood’s vehicle, according to troopers.

A third vehicle, which was following the eastbound driver, also was involved in the crash.

Both Haywood and the driver of the vehicle that struck her head-on were pronounced dead at the scene.

Haywood’s passengers, Tyjhal Ladet, Sierra Ladet and Tyzjon Ladet, all 18-year-olds from Smithville, all were hospitalized for treatment of various injuries. M.N. Ankenbrandt, 20, of Lancaster, Calif., a passenger in the second car, also was injured.

The injuries sustained by Tyjhal Ladet and Ankenbrandt were described in car accident reports as major. Updated condition reports weren’t available Monday.

The driver of the third vehicle, Tia Perkins, 21, of McMinnville, Tenn., was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Troopers have not said what they believe led to the crash or whether they suspect the involvement of contributing factors, such as intoxication.
