DUI Crash Injures Harry Smith, One Other

A man and a woman were injured in a DUI motorcycle crash that took place on Tuesday, July 7 in Hydesville. The incident occurred late at night according to initial accident reports and was reported to the authorities around 10:35 p.m.

According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, the man injured in the crash was identified as Harry Smith, 39, of Rio Dell. He was traveling southbound on the North Coast Highway 36 when the incident occurred. Dell was riding a motorcycle and had one other passenger with him. The passenger was identified by CHP as a McKinleyville woman aged 40.

As Dell rode his motorcycle east of the Graybrook Lane, he appears to have lost control of the motorcycle. As a result, Dell and the other passenger were ejected from the motorcycle at a fairly high speed. This caused both to sustain major injuries. Following the report of the crash, police and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene of the crash. Both injured persons were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to the police, preliminary investigations show that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash. For this reason, Harry Smith has been charged with felony DUI. However, he was released soon after so that he may receive treatment for his accident-related injuries.

The nature and extent of the injuries incurred by Smith or the passenger are not known at this time. Subsequent accident reports may shed a light on injuries and confirm whether or not formal charges will be brought against Smith.
