DUI Crash Near Orcutt Injures Fidel Ortiz- Pausano, 1 Other

Marshall Blanchard

A DUI crash that took place near Orcutt left two drivers injured. One of the injured drivers, now charged with DUI, was identified by the authorities as Fidel Ortiz-Pausano, 26, of Santa Maria as per the preliminary accident reports.

The head-on accident occurred on Highway 135. According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, it happened close to the State Route 1 intersection. The collision involved two vehicles which were identified by CHP as a Chevrolet Aveo and a Toyota Highlander.

The crash occurred because the Pausano who was driving the Aveo at the time, was traveling wrong-way. He was driving his vehicle northbound in one of the southbound lanes. This brought his vehicle directly in the path of the Toyota Highlander which was traveling in the southbound lanes at the time.

A head-on collision resulted between the two vehicles. It occurred late at night and was reported to the authorities at around 9:40 p.m. The collision caused minor injuries to the drivers of both vehicles. CHP didn’t identify the Highlander driver. Once the first responders arrived on the scene of the crash, both drivers were transported to the Marian Regional Medical Center where they received medical treatment.

Following the crash, CHP charged Fidel Ortiz-Pausano with driving under the influence (DUI). CHP is still investigating the incident and it is likely that other charges may also be brought against Pausano. Subsequent accident reports may reveal whether Pausano has any previous DUI record or if this is his first DUI charge.
