Raymond Ferreyra’s Life Ends in Traffic Collision on Highway 54

Matthew Strudwick

A Tuesday night, July 14th, traffic collision on Highway 54 near Paradise Hills, California, left a man dead. The car accident report showed that the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the fatal victim as Raymond Ferreyra, 35, of San Diego.

The California Highway Patrol said they are treating the crash as a hit-and-run as the driver of the vehicle the victim traveled in as a passenger fled the scene. A preliminary investigation uncovered that around 10:38 p.m., the driver happened upon cars slowed on the highway due to an earlier crash at about 9:30 p.m. that killed a man.

The motorist’s Honda CRV crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the westbound lanes, and the impact left Ferreyra with fatal injuries. The driver alighted from the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Responding medics found the victim unresponsive and pronounced him dead at about 10:56 p.m.

The CHP suspects that drugs or (and) alcohol might have played a role in the collision. The investigation is ongoing, and they will release updates at a later time.

Traffic accidents elicit a flight or fight response in those involved. Drivers who flee for fear of the legal consequences would still face it when apprehended as leaving the scene makes them liable for a hit-and-run offense. Thus, those involved in crashes should park at the site or the nearest possible place, report the occurrence to the relevant authorities, render aid to an injured person, and wait for the first responders to arrive.
