Jonathan Branaugh and Joshua Fernandes Injured in Jamestown Collision

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday, July 16th, in Jamestown, California. The accident report named Jonathan Branaugh, 35, of Tracy, and Joshua Fernandes, 33, of Angels Camp, as the drivers involved in the occurrence.

The crash happened around 5:45 a.m. on O’Byrnes Ferry Road. The CHP said that Branaugh drove a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer north on the roadway. He accelerated to overtake a big rig, causing him to drift towards oncoming traffic on the southbound lane.

Branaugh ended up directly in the path of a Ford F-550 driven by Fernandes, resulting in a head-on collision. The impact caused the Chevrolet to overturn, and the driver sustained significant injuries. Medics flew him to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.

Fernandes also suffered injuries, and the paramedics conveyed him to Adventist Health in Sonora. The CHP said that there’s no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.

Motor vehicle collisions are primarily the resultant effect of a driver’s or drivers’ negligence. A common cause is motorists illegally overtaking other road users, veering off their lane, and driving the wrong way. The preceding are traffic offenses, and an offender is liable to pay a fine if apprehended.

If an accident occurs from a driver doing any or all of the three and there’s severe bodily harm or death, then the person would face a criminal trial. The offending motorist can also face a personal injury or wrongful death civil lawsuit and pay damages to the victim.
