The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified the man killed in a plane crash outside the Tehachapi Municipal Airport, California. In the accident report update on Tuesday, July 28th, sheriff officials revealed the victim’s name as Michael Phillips, a 69-year-old resident of Westchester.

The crash report released on Friday, July 24th, placed the time of the incident at about 11:53 a.m. on the 400-block of Green Street. Phillips was the sole occupant of the aircraft, and the Kern County Fire Department said nobody in the surrounding buildings and businesses sustained injuries.

The victim died at the scene, and the cause and manner of death remain under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board is heading the inquiry on what caused the small Cessna plane to crash, and they will release an update once they have more information.
