Eliodoro Arellano Killed after Running into a Car in Fresno

A 38-year-old resident of Fresno, California, lost his life after running into traffic in the center of the city on Monday night, July 27th. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Eliodoro Arellano.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 180 near Clovis Avenue. Facts from the accident report showed that the events leading to the victim’s death began with a traffic stop by deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The report showed that the officers stopped a suspicious-looking car near Minnewawa and Turner to carry out an investigation, but Arellano ran off. He went through a fence onto the eastbound lanes of the highway and directly into the path of a Nissan Sentra. The female driver of the vehicle said she could not avoid striking the victim.

The motorist was unhurt from the collision, but her passenger suffered cuts from glass shattered from the crash’s impact. The woman remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, and the police did not cite her. The deputies arrested the other two occupants of the car Arellano was traveling in.

There is no indication that intoxication played a role in the incident. The CHP is handling the investigation, and they would release an update as events unfold. They reiterated that pedestrians should avoid heading blindly into traffic, and drivers should maintain a speed level that would enable them to stop in time to avoid a collision.
