The California Highway Patrol arrested the driver who operated a car while impaired and caused an accident in Rio Linda, California. 29-year-old Amardeep Singh would need the expertise of a drunk driving attorney.
Facts from the crash report showed that the suspect drove a grey Toyota Corolla southbound on Elkhorn Boulevard behind a white Audi sedan. A little before midnight, Singh collided head-on with a white Dodge van driven by a 50-year-old man.
The suspect kept driving and sideswiped the Audi and a Toyota Tundra behind the Dodge. The operator of the van sustained fatal wounds, and medics pronounced him dead at the scene. Singh suffered injuries and received treatment at the Mercy San Juan Medical Center.
The CHP said that they placed him under arrest after getting treated on suspicion of driving under the influence. They booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail for DUI, causing bodily injury or death with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Under the California Vehicle Code, a person would face a charge of vehicular manslaughter if he or she when operating a vehicle kills a person. It can constitute a second-degree murder under the Penal Code if there’s evidence of malice on the part of the offender.
Those found guilty of vehicular manslaughter are liable to spend four, six, or ten years in state prison and might be ordered to pay a fine. The person could also face a civil lawsuit if the victim’s family or representative decides to recover damages.
