What started as a wrong-way driving accident on Highway 50 in the El Dorado Hills area of California, ended as an auto-pedestrian collision that claimed the life of a woman on Thursday morning, August 6th. The California Highway Patrol identified the victim as Crystal Mora, 37.
The investigators stated in the car accident report that the woman died when she ran across the freeway after her car veered off the road and went down the embankment. Mora drove west on the eastbound lane between Latrobe Road and East Bidwell Street in Eldorado County.
At about 4:15 a.m., she went down a 30-foot embankment. The woman exited her crashed car, climbed up a hill, and ran across the freeway where a vehicle struck her. She sustained extensive injuries, and the medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
The CHP said that they reopened the eastbound lanes around 7:15 a.m., and traffic flowed freely. They recovered Mora’s Mazda 3, and there’s currently no additional information at this time.
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in California. They are avoidable if drivers obey the road’s rules, and prioritize their safety and that of others.
Pedestrians should avoid crossing highways blindly; look at both sides of the road, gauge the flow of traffic and the speed limit, and wear a visible outfit. Additionally, enter a designated crosswalk, and avoid jaywalking, texting, and calling when on the road.
