Early Wednesday morning, August 12th, the California Highway Patrol responded to a traffic collision south of Turlock, California, which left one dead. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as a 20-year-old Modesto man, Isaac Aguilera.
The accident happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the area of South Walnut Road and West Harding Road. An initial report described the occurrence as a property damage crash with a vehicle blocking, but the CHP clarified it in a news release.
In the statement, the highway patrol said that Isaac Aguilera traveled north on Walnut in a 2002 Ford. He approached Harding at top speed and drifted to the east, where he struck a concrete barrier wall over a Turlock Irrigation District canal.
The CHP said that the Ford rolled and rested on its roof. Seconds later, a 2011 Hyundai Genesis operated by a Hilmar resident, Amy Cole, 45, came upon the victim’s wrecked car. The woman was southbound on Walnut, and she was unable to stop in time to avoid colliding with the first vehicle.
The investigators said that Cole was speeding at the time, and the crash impact caused the two vehicles to spin. The front of the Hyundai ripped the Ford in two, tearing through the driver’s seat area to the driver’s side trunk.
The female driver suffered moderate injuries, including cuts and seat belts abrasions. The CHP placed her under arrest and charged her with vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing significant bodily injury and driving without a valid license. She remains in custody.
