One of the accident reports updates made during the weekend disclosed the name of the motorcycle rider killed in a collision on Ortega (74) Highway in Lake Elsinore, California. On Saturday, August 15th, Riverside County Coroner’s Office named Marcus Murrieta, a 36-year-old Menifee resident, as the fatal victim.
The crash report placed the time of the occurrence at about 6 p.m., Friday, August 14th. According to the California Highway Patrol, Murrieta succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
The CHP said that the man lost control of his motorcycle at a curve while traveling at high speed and crossed into the other side of the highway. The act caused Murrieta to slam into an oncoming Toyota Prius, and the impact ejected him from the motorcycle. He landed on the dirt shoulder of the roadway.
The highway patrol said that the 40-year-old man driving the Toyota did not sustain any wound, and there is no record of an arrest at this time. The investigation remains active.
When it comes to auto-motorcycle collisions, speed is at the forefront of the causes. This is because most riders operate a bike for the adrenaline rush, thereby throwing caution to the wind. Law enforcement and traffic agencies advise bikers to desist from speeding and make safety a priority.
Motorcyclists can protect themselves by wearing a helmet compliant with the requirements of the United States Department of Transportation. Wearing safety apparel also goes a long way to mitigate the severity of the injuries suffered.
