Traffic investigators with the Oakland Police Department, California, are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash in the city on Wednesday morning, September 30th. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said Malcolm Darensburg, 41, of Oakland, died from his injuries.
Facts from the car accident report showed that the incident took place on Park Street Bridge. The police said that an Acura MDX was northbound on 29th Street into Oakland while a southbound Hyundai Accent, heading towards Alameda crossed the roadway’s double yellow lines.
The Hyundai struck the Acura, and its driver, Darensburg, suffered significant injuries. Medics rushed the victim to an area hospital where medical personnel pronounced him dead. The driver of the other vehicle, a 62-year-old woman, and her 87-year-old female passenger sustained wounds.
The paramedics conveyed the women to an area hospital to receive treatment, and they remain in stable condition at the time of this report. The OPD said that there is currently no evidence of drugs or alcohol impairment in the crash.
The investigators closed the bridge while they cleared the scene of debris and collected evidence. The Alameda Police said they reopened the roadway at about 2 p.m. Anyone with relevant information on the crash should contact the Oakland Police Traffic Division on the listed line.
Under the California Vehicle Code, a driver traveling on a two-lane roadway must maintain his lane and avoid crossing the solid double yellow lines. A motorist can only cross the line if it is broken, a sign allows it, or if the person is driving an emergency vehicle.
