Early this week, a woman survived a five-vehicle pile-up in Lake County, California. In a press release on Wednesday, October 7th, the California Highway Patrol said the collision involving Elizabeth Elliot Ambriz, 33, of Redwood Valley, happened on Highway 20.
The crash occurred at about 5:55 p.m. Monday, east of Reclamation Road near Nice. The investigators said that traffic slowed on the roadway after a severe injury collision involving a semi, near Pomo Way.
The car accident report disclosed that 39-year-old Joshua Franklin Murray of Lucerne was eastbound on H-20 in a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup at 55 miles per hour. The CHP said that the driver admitted he was eating a recently purchased hamburger when he suddenly noticed traffic had slowed in front of him.
Murray applied his brakes heavily but ended up colliding with the rear of a Kia Soul operated by Ambriz. The collision force propelled the Kia into the back of a ’98 Honda Accord driven by Jacqueline Snelson, 62, of Upper Lake.
The woman entered the westbound lane, directly in front of a 2015 Ford Explorer driven by Ladina Williams, 49, of Lucerne. The highway patrol said both vehicles collided head-on. Snelson’s Honda then rolled into the back of a Chevrolet HHR operated by Toni Gayle Conley of Upper Lake.
Ambriz suffered significant injuries, and medics took her to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport for treatment. Two children in the woman’s vehicle, aged 6 and 3, sustained significant injuries and received treatment at UC Davis Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, respectively.
Wiliams suffered a possible hand injury and received treatment at Sutter Lakeside, and the medics transported a 1-year-old child with her for precautionary reasons. Murray, Snelson, and Conley were uninjured.
