Menifee Elder Abuse Suspect, Andrew Joseph, Pleads Not Guilty

On Thursday, October 8th, Riverside County prosecutors arraigned the man who allegedly assaulted his grandmother in Menifee, California, and left her with fatal injuries. Andrew Daniel Joseph, 41, pleaded not guilty while appearing before Judge Paul Dickerson of the Riverside County Superior Court.

The man faces a murder charge, elder abuse, and a sentence enhancing allegation for inflicting great bodily harm on a dependent adult. The defendant allegedly beat his 83-year-old grandmother at her Menifee home on September 18th.

The residence is in the 26000 block of Ridgemoor Drive near Menifee Road. The Menifee Police Department picked Joseph up soon after the attack and remanded him at the Byrd Detention Center.

According to the MPD, the defendant allegedly struck the victim, Ethel Heath, with whom he stayed, several times in the face, possibly during an argument. The woman managed to walk to her neighbor’s home, where she asked for help.

The neighbor called 911, and paramedics and the patrol police arrived within minutes. The medics took the woman to the Riverside Medical Center in Moreno Valley while the officers detained Joseph on an assault charge.

Heath passed away two days later, and the prosecutors amended the charge to murder. The defendant, who has a prior conviction for assault with a deadly weapon causing severe bodily harm, remains in custody in place of a $1 million bail bond.

Judge Dickerson scheduled a felony settlement conference for Tuesday, November 10th, at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. There is no additional information.
