A 12-year-old boy from Los Angeles, California, was killed in an auto accident on Tuesday, March 10th, while walking to school in the morning. The Los Angeles Police Department identified him as Abraham Trejo, a student of Animo South Los Angeles Charter High School.
The young boy, who would have turned 13 in May, was knocked down at about 7:31 a.m. in South Los Angeles. The accident occurred precisely in the 100-block of East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
According to the LAPD report, Trejo was hit by an SUV driven by an unnamed 42-year-old woman. The car had just made a left turn from Woodland Avenue onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when it struck the boy.
The report stated that Trejo, who was using the crosswalk and the driver both had green lights, meaning they both had the right of way. After the boy was knocked down, a bystander performed CPR to keep him alive.
The paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department continued when they arrived, but their efforts were in vain as Trejo died on the scene from a cardiac arrest. The woman had no injuries, and she stayed back to talk to the police.
The driver told the LAPD officers that she didn’t see the boy on the crosswalk. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing as the LAPD tries to uncover why the lights for the turn and the crosswalk were green at the same time.
A GoFundMe was opened by the non-profit organization, Badge of Heart, to help Trejo’s family with funeral costs and expenses.
