Paul Bertsche Discovers Man Who Died in Desert Flower Road Accident

The Victor Valley Sheriff’s Office, near Adelanto, California, on Saturday, March 21st, revealed that a man was found dead in an SUV that went off the road. Paul Bertsche discovered the body.

Bertsche and a friend he was traveling with were off-roading near El Mirage when they came across the 2002 gray-colored Chevrolet Suburban. The men tried to offer assistance after they saw that the car slid off the road and was stuck.

Bertsche then noticed that the driver, who remains unidentified, was deceased. He noted that the driver, who he described as an elderly gentleman, seemed like he had been dead for a week, and most likely died from hypothermia.

The sheriff’s office received a call at about 3 p.m. about the abandoned SUV and dispatched deputies to the area. The deputies were sent to Desert Flower Road and El Privilegio Street, and they performed what they called a “Death investigation.”

The sheriff’s office spokeswoman, Cindy Bachman, said in a press release that the death does not appear to be suspicious. The body of the deceased was taken to the coroner, who would determine the actual cause of death.

The San Bernardino County Coroner is in charge of the autopsy and will release the identity of the deceased after its conclusion. The cause of the accident remains elusive, and the sheriff’s office didn’t state if they will continue investigating.

Accidents occur for different reasons, and while older drivers can drive well into their 90s, they are advised to do so with utmost care. Older drivers should obey all traffic rules and drive on access roads, and within the speed limit.
