On Thursday, February 13th, the police arrested Alejandro Arriaga, 28, in connection to the rollover accident on Kirker Pass, California. He was booked and put in the Martinez Detention facility.
Arriaga, at his arraignment, faced three count charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon, and one count charge of child cruelty. He is still in custody pending when he meets the requirement of his bail set at $190 000.
If found guilty of the first three charges, the accused faces 4 years (cumulatively 12) in state prison or fine up to $10 000, or both fine and imprisonment. For child cruelty, he faces up to two, four, or six years in a state prison or a fine of $10 000.
The accident happened on Tuesday, February 11th, in the area of Kirker Pass Road and Hess Road near Concord. At about 3:24 p.m., the California Highway Patrol got a call of a rollover accident.
On getting to the scene, they found three unidentified women trapped in a tan-colored 2004 Chevy Tahoe. The driver sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in the local hospital.
The woman on the driver’s passenger side sustained minor injuries and has been released from the hospital, while the one at the back was unscathed. CHP investigations found that Arriaga caused the accident.
The suspect who used to date one of the women in the Chevy drove his white 2015 Mercedes Benz behind the women before suddenly overtaking them. Arriaga blocked the way, causing the driver of the other car to lose control and flip over the embankment.
Police have asked anyone with information on the accident to contact the CHP or the Concord Sheriff’s department.
