Alfred Gomez Identified as the Fatal Victim of Bakersfield Solo Accident

Two months after a man died in an accident in Bakersfield, California, the Kern County Coroner’s Office on Friday, August 14th, identified him. In updates made to the car accident report, the coroner named Alfred Juan Gomez, 40, as the victim.

The initial crash report released on Sunday, June 7th, disclosed that the Bakersfield Police Department and emergency responders pulled the man’s body from a vehicle submerged into a canal in the southside of the city. The water is off South H Street, between Panama Lane and Berkshire Road.

Sgt. Mike Gerrity said that a water district employee found the car underwater. At the time, the police said that the facts of the events leading to the accident were not known, but they noted that Gomez’s vehicle went off the roadway, went through a fence, and ended in the canal.

There is no update on the exact cause of the accident, and the BPD did not indicate if they are still investigating. There is no additional information.

Accidents of this nature are preventable if drivers make safety a priority when on the road. They can achieve this by avoiding dangerous behaviors like doing donuts, weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, swerving dangerously, wrong-way driving, and running through red lights or stop signs at intersections.

Avoiding the preceding goes a long way in not only preventing collisions but adverse legal consequences also. The latter often covers imprisonment and payment of a fine depending on the offense.
