Altheia Taylor Killed in Rialto Auto-Pedestrian Collision

At about 3:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15th, a woman lost her life in an auto-pedestrian collision in the Rialto area of California. Altheia Taylor, 57, passed away from the injuries sustained after a car struck her on Riverside Avenue.

According to the accident report released by the Rialto Police Department, the victim was pushing a shopping cart near Locust Avenue when a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck her. The medics rushed Taylor to the hospital, where she passed away while undergoing treatment.

The police said the driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. The motorist did not appear impaired, and so far, the RPD has not issued any citations. The investigation is ongoing.

A motor vehicle accident, especially when it involves a pedestrian, often leaves drivers shocked and panicked. The two emotions cause most people to leave the scene of an accident, thereby committing an offense of hit-and-run under the California Vehicle Code.

The law provides that anyone involved in a traffic accident either involving a vehicle, an animal, a person, property, or stationary object must park at the scene. If the crash site does not have a place for the motorist to park, he or she should look for a place closeby and ensure that the vehicle won’t affect traffic.

After parking, check for injuries and call for an ambulance. Provide first aid, wait for the first responders to arrive, and don’t leave the scene until the investigating authority gives the go-ahead. If there’s no injury, but there’s property damage, locate the owner, and exchange contact and insurance information.
