Andrea Martinez Is Pedestrian Killed in Santa Clara Traffic Collision

Accident reports released by the Santa Clara authorities on Saturday, May 9, disclosed the identity of a woman who died last week in a vehicle-pedestrian accident near San Tomas, California. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s office named the deceased pedestrian as Andrea Martinez, 45.

Initial reports from the California Highway Patrol stated that at precisely 4:12 a.m., on Wednesday, May 6, a moving vehicle struck a pedestrian. The crash happened on Highway 101, near San Tomas Expressway, and led to the victim’s death, the reports affirmed.

The fatal victim, Martinez, was crossing the highway when a 2014 Chevy Silverado, plying the north lanes of travel, ran her over. Investigators determined that the operator of the Chevy applied the brakes before the fatal encounter, but not in time to stop the truck from hitting Martinez.

The impact of the collision caused the victim to fall to the ground in the area between the freeway lanes. When medics arrived, they tried to no avail to rescue the woman. They declared her dead at the scene.

The accident reports failed to disclose the identity and condition of the motorist that struck Martinez. Officers did not release further details about the fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision, which is still under investigation.

Vehicle-pedestrian accidents have been on the rise in recent years. These accidents are sometimes traced to negligence on the part of the motorist. In other cases, however, the pedestrian can be found guilty for the accident, especially as a result of their failure to use a designated crosswalk.

Therefore, motorists and pedestrians alike should endeavor to heed to traffic regulations at all times, while paying attention to their surroundings.
