41-year-old Andrea Wood sustained injuries following an auto-pedestrian accident in Oildale, California. The accident occurred early Sunday morning, July 5th, at about 2 a.m. on Roberts Lane west of Plymouth Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Wood was walking southbound across Roberts when she entered into a car’s path, causing the collision. The driver fled the scene, making the accident a hit-and-run, and medics conveyed the woman to Kern Medical for treatment of severe wounds.
There is currently no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with helpful information should contact the CHP.
Facts from accident reports show that auto-pedestrian collisions are not uncommon in California, and they are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in the state. The problem is compounded by the fact that more people choose to walk to schools, offices, malls, or for recreational purposes.
The more people on the road, the higher the chance of auto-pedestrian accidents, especially if drivers and pedestrians are not heeding to traffic rules. The two sides of the divide have a role to play in preventing collisions; playing their roles would safeguard the lives of pedestrians and keep drivers from facing criminal prosecution for assault or vehicular manslaughter.
In the same light, drivers must remain at the scene of a collision to help the authorities determine whose side the fault lies. If the pedestrian were negligent or had contributory negligence, the driver would not face any criminal charge or civil lawsuit, except for other traffic offenses.
