A motor vehicle collision occurs when a car collides with another vehicle or a pedestrian, animal, road debris, or stationary obstruction like a tree, pole, or building. Traffic collisions often result in injury, disability, death, or property damage. It leads to financial costs for those involved and to the society also.
Several factors lead to traffic collisions like defective vehicle design, speed of operation, road design, road environment, driving skills, impairment due to alcohol or drugs, distracted driving, speeding, and speed racing. General types of accidents include head-on collisions, road departure, rear-end and side collisions, and rollovers.
The above are preventable if drivers obey the traffic rules and regulations, practice safe road habits, and put their safety and that of their passengers first. Anyone with a fault in a collision may face citations, and when there’s a death or bodily harm, there might be a criminal prosecution.
