A 22-year-old man suffered severe injuries following an accident early Monday morning, June 22nd, in Apple Valley, California. The accident report showed that James Fowler, 46, who was driving under the influence at the time, started the chain of events that led to the collision.
The crash took place in the area of Thunderbird and Cheyenne roads around 1:30 a.m. The suspect was behind the wheel of a truck heading west on Thunderbird. According to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jackie Alban, the man had his 15-year-old and 22-year-old sons in the vehicle.
The latter was in the bed of the truck and tried to enter the cab while the vehicle was in transit. In the process, the older son fell and landed on the roadway. Soon after, a car traveling in the opposite direction struck the young man, running him over.
Responding medics used an air helicopter to transport the injured man from St. Mary’s Hospital to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The sheriff’s deputies determined the suspect was intoxicated and had been drinking with his sons before the wreck. They arrested Fowler and placed him in the High Desert Detention Center.
Alban said that they handed the 15-year-old over to his mother. The driver of the vehicle that struck the victim remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the authorities. There is no additional information.
Those involved in DUI-related accidents should seek legal advice and representation from a drunk driving attorney.
