Archie Beetus Arrested for Impaired Driving Following Solo Crash in Bucks Lake

An early morning crash on Friday, September 18th, in the census-designated Bucks Lake area of California led to the arrest of an out-of-state man. Archie Ray Beetus, 34, of Hughes, Alaska, was allegedly driving impaired and would need representation from a drunk driving attorney.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the suspect was in the area working as a contractor for the US Forest Service. The crash report showed that at about 1:16 a.m., Beetus drove a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 rental vehicle at 35 miles per hour.

He traveled on Bucks Lake Road, east of Big Creek Road. The investigators said that the man could not navigate a sharp turn, causing the Dodge to cross both the westbound and eastbound lanes.

The vehicle traveled onto the dirt shoulder of the roadway and descended an embankment. It collided with two trees before resting in a driveway, facing the northeast. The impact caused the car to catch fire, but Beetus had already exited.

The report revealed that a passing game warden saw the vehicle go up in flames and called for help. The CHP, Plumas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Forest Service responded to the scene. Firefighters were able to put out the flames before it could spread.

The highway patrol and the sheriff’s office conducted an investigation and determined that Beetus was under the influence. They placed him under arrest on suspicion of DUI. The investigators reminded drivers that if they are going to drink, they should avoid getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.
