An accident in the early hours of Monday, February 17th, left a man with severe head trauma. The California Highway Patrol has identified the man as Jose Gonzalez, 43.
According to CHP, Gonzalez was riding his ATV south on Mitchell Avenue. As he approached the intersection of Mountain View Avenue, he made a sudden turning movement.
The action caused the ATV to overturn, and Gonzalez got ejected; he was not wearing a helmet, leaving his head exposed. He was transported from the scene to the Community Regional Medical Center, where he is undergoing treatment.
The CHP is investigating what could have led to the sudden turn made by the injured man. So far, all they have are hypotheses, and they are waiting to talk to Gonzalez and see if he can shed some light.
California is one of the best states to ride all-terrain vehicles. However, it still records a significant amount of ATV accidents, mostly due to the negligence or impairment of the riders.
Some causes of ATV accidents include excessive speeding, driving while distracted, intoxication by drug or alcohol, and driving with little or no experience. Another reason is the manufacturer’s defect, and inadequate information to prevent rollovers.
Accidents caused by manufacturer’s defect brings about corporate lawsuits and personal injury claims against the manufacturer. To avoid accidents, read the ATV instruction manual carefully before driving.
Attend a training course and get acquainted with the dos and don’ts of the vehicle. Do not drive while intoxicated, and always have a helmet and other protective wears on.
