Authorities ID Kenny Duarte As Victim In Fiery Hollywood Crash

Authorities on Saturday released the name of a man killed in a three-vehicle crash March 1 in North Hollywood.

Coroner’s office officials said Kenny Duarte, 30, of Van Nuys, died at the scene of the crash, which caused his vehicle to burst into flames before bystanders could extricate him from the wreckage. Three vehicles were involved in the collision Sunday night on Hollywood Freeway near Roscoe Boulevard.

Authorities said Duate was driving south on the highway when he slowed his vehicle and was struck from behind by another car. Duarte’s vehicle reportedly then crashed into the center divider.

A third vehicle then crashed into the left side of Duarte’s vehicle, pushing it into lanes of oncoming traffic, local media outlets report. The vehicle then caught fire.

Several bystanders attempted to pull Duarte from the vehicle but were unsuccessful due to the flames. Duarte died at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said a 62-year-old woman, an occupant of one of the other vehicles involved in the collision, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The woman’s name was not released publicly by investigators.
