The identity of a woman who was killed last week in a highway crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the Delano area of Kern County, California, has been released. The Kern County Coroner’s Office, on Monday, May 4th, named the deceased pedestrian as Nancy Sanchez, a 29-year-old Delano resident, the accident reports confirmed.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place just before midnight on Friday, May 1st, on Highway 99. Investigators determined that the pedestrian was walking on 99 when she was fatally struck by a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, which was traveling along the south traffic lanes of the highway.
Sanchez suffered fatal injuries as a result and was declared dead at the scene by responding paramedics. The operator of the Chevrolet, who did not sustain any injury in the crash, stayed at the crash site until the police arrived.
The motorist did not appear to have been impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time. The reports did not state whether the victim was inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck, nor did it ascertain if the driver would be facing charges.
The Kern County authorities are still investigating the cause of the tragic collision that claimed Sanchez’s life. Investigators would try to determine whether speed, an improperly lit highway, distracted driving, impairment, or a fault from the pedestrian led to the accident.
Any update on the case would be made available in the accident reports.
