Authorities Identify Bicyclist Killed in Chico Crash as Diane Ruby

The identification of a cyclist who died over the weekend after slamming into a moving car in Chico, California, calls for the expertise of a bicycle accident attorney. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, May 26, named the deceased rider as Diane Ruby, a 63-year-old woman.

Officers responded to the crash at precisely 10 a.m., following reports of a traffic collision involving a car and a bicycle. The reports affirmed that the incident happened on Humbolt Road, near the Malloy Creek Trail on Sunday, May 24.

Preliminary reports showed the fatal victim was riding a bicycle on Humbolt Road. At the same time, an SUV was traveling through the route in the same direction.

Officers said the operator of the SUV encountered a bicyclist on the trail, and reduced speed to avoid a collision. That was when Ruby swayed sideways and lost control of her bike, which skidded forward and crashed into the SUV.

First responders transported the cyclist to Enloe Medical Center, where she later passed away from major injuries sustained in the accident. The unidentified motorist behind the wheels of the SUV went unscathed.

Impairment by drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the car-bicycle collision. Investigators also ruled out speed as a possible factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

Victims of bicycle accidents can hire a bicycle accident attorney who could conduct an independent investigation, and ascertain the liability of the crash.
