The authorities in Sylmar, 16 miles to Glendale, California, revealed on Monday, March 16th, the identity of one of the men who died in a tragic plane crash. They identified him as Kevin Solis, 36, of Fontana.
The fatal plane crash occurred on Friday, March 13th, at about 2:52 p.m. near the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sylmar. The preliminary report showed that Solis and one other unidentified male were flying a single-propeller plane, the Mooney M40.
The aircraft was inbound to the Van Nuys Airport when it went down for reasons yet to be uncovered. The two men inside died from the crash, and there was nothing emergency responders could do for them.
The National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) is heading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Airplane accidents are rare occurrences in the United States, but the past two years has seen a climb in statistics.
Civil aviation accidents have climbed by about 13 percent, and the fatality rate has increased as well. There are different reasons why an aircraft will crash, and they include pilot error, mechanical failure, defective aircraft design, and manufacturing.
When it’s either of the last two, the company who built the airplane is liable for a civil lawsuit. The family members of the deceased person (s) can bring an action for wrongful death, and ask for damages to the tune of the loss suffered.
The loss would cover medical bills, loss of income, loss of consortium, and the emotional and psychological trauma of losing a loved one.
