The car accident report released by the San Jose Police Department placed the time of the occurrence at about 1:51 a.m. on Capitol Expressway near Senter Road. The preliminary investigation uncovered that the victim operated a 2001 Lexus eastbound on Capitol at top speed.

The man lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree. He sustained life-threatening injuries, and medics transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Nguyen remained hospitalized until he passed away around 12:23 p.m. Sunday.

The report showed that the Santa Clara Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the victim. The crash marked the 30th roadway death in San Jose. The investigation into the occurrence remains active, and witnesses can contact Detective Troy Sirmons of the SJPD on the listed line.

Vehicle collisions are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California and the United States. One of the common causes of road accidents is speeding. Under the Cal-Basic Speed Law, a driver must never travel faster than is safe for current conditions.

Regardless of the posted limit, a driver must base his speed on the number and speed of other vehicles on the road and whether the surface is smooth, rough, gravel, wet, dry, wide, or narrow. Also consider bicyclists or pedestrians on the road’s edge and the weather condition.
