The police in Victorville, 30 miles from San Bernardino, California, arrested Andrew Bryce Billingsley, 32, on Monday, March 2nd, after he fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident. The accident occurred on the same day as the arrest at about 2 p.m.
According to the police, Billingsley, crashed his car into a Victorville Elementary School bus, at the intersection of Hesperia Road, and Cherry Hill Drive. The affected school bus had the driver in it, and three school children.
The driver was trying to turn left onto Hesperia Road when Billingsley dark-blue 2013 Toyota Corolla ran a red light and crashed into the bus. The Toyota then collided with a light pole, bringing it to a halt.
One of the children in the school bus sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. An eye witness account stated that the driver of the wrecked car got out of it, frantically took out some personal effects, and fled the scene.
He ran into an apartment complex, and witnesses followed him into it. When the police arrived, they handed Billingsley to them, and they arrested him.
The arresting officers took the man back to the scene where he got interviewed by the California Highway Patrol, before they took him to the hospital for treatment of a laceration to his head. Further investigation showed that the driver has Schizophrenia, and was off his meds at the time of the crash.
