The two people who died in the fatal auto crash on Highway 41, Coarsegold, 36 miles from Fresno, California, have been identified by the Madera County Coroner’s Office. The coroner revealed their name on Thursday, March 5th, as Chana-Ne Botchon Reid, 25, and Layna Ronette Marquez, 48.
The two died from injuries sustained in a traffic collision that occurred on the highway on February 9th. A statement by the California Highway Patrol revealed that Marquez was driving a 2001 Honda Civic when for reasons they haven’t uncovered, she over-corrected on a turn.
The move made the car slam into a nearby tree, and roll onto its side. CHP officers reported the accident at about 1:50 a.m., and first responders got to the scene soon after.
They found Marquez and Reid, who was a passenger in the Honda unresponsive and pronounced them dead. The CHP did not state if the driver was impaired or if she was related to her passenger.
The investigation into the crash remains active as the CHP continues to try to piece together what went wrong. Rollovers are not uncommon in car crashes, and it makes up about three percent of auto accidents.
Thirty percent of passenger deaths occur because of rollovers, and modern car manufacturers are designing vehicles to prevent rollover accidents. To prevent it, always replace old tires, and carry out full vehicle maintenance when due.
Avoid speeding and distractions while driving. Take corners carefully, be cautious on highways and rural roadways, and avoid putting a lot of load on the vehicle.
