On the night of Tuesday, February 18th, a fatal multiple-vehicle crash occurred on Rosecrans Avenue, Norwalk, California. It happened at about 8:40 p.m. on the southbound off-ramp.
According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol, about three cars were involved in the crash. Charles Cooper was driving one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
He was getting off the freeway when a Cadillac ran a red light and slammed into the back of a Honda Accord. The crash sent the driver flying out of the car and landing on Cooper’s Ford Focus, bringing it to a stop.
Cooper was unharmed, but the driver of the Honda died on impact. A video clip obtained by the authorities showed that Honda’s rear got hit by a Toyota, and it sheared off.
The Cadillac, which started the fatal chain of event, rested on Rosecrans, along with two sedans on the off-ramp left-turn lane. Cooper’s Ford was in the right-turn lane.
Authorities have not been able to identify the deceased driver or the other people involved in the accident. They remained at the scene of the crash until late into the night, and are still investigating.
An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death and the identity of the deceased. In the meantime, traffic officials are reiterating the dangers of running a red light.
A lot of traffic accidents in California are caused by drivers not waiting for lights to change appropriately or thinking they can make the pass before it switches. Obeying traffic laws will reduce the rate of accidents and save more lives.
