On Sunday, February 16, a car and pedestrian accident happened in Pittsburg around 1:00 in the morning.
The pedestrian was walking in the eastbound lane of the Loveridge Road off-ramp off Highway 4 when a 2013 Honda hit them.
The pedestrian was identified as 33-year-old Charles Guerrero IV of Denver, Colorado. The driver of the Honda was a 36-year-old man from Livermore, but his identity was not released to the public.
The driver stayed at the scene of the accident and cooperated fully with the police. Based on the accident scene, the police believe that Guerrero was walking within the second-to-far-left lane on the exit which made it impossible for the Honda to avoid him.
At this time, it doesn’t seem that the driver of the Honda will be facing charges due to the accident being unavoidable.
Guerrero was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Autopsy results will determine if drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in his early morning walk on the exit ramp.
This accident occurred exactly six days after another vehicular accident with a pedestrian on a ramp to Highway 4.
18-year-old Joseph Barratt III, a Concord High School Senior, was killed on the Port Chicago Highway on-ramp to Highway 4. He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek after that accident occurred. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The California Highway Patrol is considering the death of Guerrero an active investigation and more details will be released as they become available concerning the circumstances surrounding the accident.
