The 19-year-old driver who caused a car crash in Ventura County, California, that claimed the life of one of his passengers would need a top accident lawyer’s service. The California Highway Patrol revealed in a press release on Monday, July 20th, that they arrested the motorist, Jorge Angel Perez, of Compton.
They charged him with suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter. The investigators placed the suspect behind the wheel of a 2007 Ford Mustang traveling on Highway 101 early Saturday, July 18th. The incident happened on the north side of the roadway at about 2 a.m. north of Telephone Pole Road.
Perez drove at top speed as he approached the transition onto Highway 126. The CHP said that the suspect swerved to avoid a car traveling at a slower pace, and he lost control of the Ford. The vehicle traveled off the roadway, overturned down an embankment and rested on its roof.
The crash ejected a 21-year-old passenger from Compton who was not wearing a seatbelt, and he died at the scene. The investigators would release his name after notifying the next-of-kin. Perez and two other occupants of the Ford, aged 18 and 19 had their seatbelts on, but sustained injuries.
Medics took the passengers to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver also suffered injuries, and the CHP said that they booked him into the Ventura County Jail.
In addition to vehicular manslaughter, the suspect is facing charges of suspicion of alcohol-related DUI causing damage, driving with a blood-alcohol level at or above .08%, causing injury. He would appear in court on Friday morning, July 31st.
