Stoddard is notably known as a former U.S. House of Representatives candidate. The pilot of the plane has not been identified for now.

According to the details shared by the authorities, the biplane closely missed a building in Kearny Mesa. It crashed in the 8600 block of Balboa Avenue, close to the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

The plane had just taken off when its pilot realized that it had a problem. The pilot tried to loop back and reach the airport. However, the plane couldn’t make it and instead crashed in an open space. The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

Chris Stoddard was one of the two people on board the plane. Stoddard himself is a former military pilot who ran for the U.S. House of Representatives but lost.

Once paramedics and first responders arrived on the scene of the crash, Stoddard and the pilot were transported to the Sharp Memorial Hospital. Both sustained injuries but were conscious and able to talk to the paramedics.

The area where the plane crashed had fuel cells, hydrogen tanks and other hazardous materials. The plane luckily avoided crashing into any of these materials. Investigations into the incident are still ongoing. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are leading the investigations. Subsequent accident reports from the incident may reveal the identity of the pilot and other details.
