A soldier has been arrested in Coweta County, Georgia, after breaking a statewide shelter-in-place order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a tragic crash. The traffic incident took place on Saturday, April 4, according to the accident reports.
The US defense comrade, Identified as 20-year-old Christian Lee Robinson, reportedly broke a handful of traffic regulations, including drunk driving and fleeing from police in addition to his lockdown breech.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a state trooper sighted the soldier traveling along Interstate 85, at a speed of 120 mph, in a Pontiac Solstice, and attempted pulling him over.
Robinson failed to comply, which forced the officer to disable the traffic offender’s car using PIT maneuver, near mile marker 49.
As a result, the Pontiac spiraled out of control and collided with a dividing wall. The 20-year old suffered injuries in the crash. First responders transported the accident victim to a local hospital for treatment, after which he was taken into police custody.
Authorities discovered upon interrogation that Robinson was a US soldier who was away without leave from Fort Gordon in Augusta. Officer also determined that he was drunk at the time of the crash.
Prior to the crash, the AWOL defense staff was en route Alabama to visit his family, as stated in the accident reports.
Robinson is faced with charges of reckless conduct for violating the shelter-in-place order, DUI, and obstruction of officers and evading police.
He was also charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, open container, overspeeding, failure to maintain lane, and reckless driving.
The soldier was booked into the Coweta Jail, in lieu of a $6,200 bond.
