A woman and her daughter survived a near-fatal crash in Merced County, California, on Monday, May 25th. The accident report released by the authorities disclosed their identities as Clarissa Cowards, 42, and Alysea Jones, 19, both of Stockton.
The crash report showed that the two and an 11-year-old child were traveling in an SUV along Highway 99, north of Delhi. It occurred precisely south of the highway and West Bradbury Road around 3:30 p.m.
Sgt. Danny Bowen of the California Highway Patrol said in a press release that Cowards was heading south at the speed of 65 miles per hour. She was in the No. 1 lane near West Bradbury in a 2004 Dodge Durango when she lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons.
The car moved to the right, crossed the number two lane of the highway, and went over the shoulder. The vehicle then went across an on-ramp and rested after overturning at an embankment. Jones was sitting in the right front passenger seat while the minor, who is a family member, was at the rear seat.
The two were ejected in the collision, and the CHP believe they were not wearing seat belts when the crash occurred. The investigators did not state if the female driver had her seat belt on. Jones and the child sustained severe wounds, and the medics used an air ambulance to transport them to area hospitals.
The accident report disclosed that Clarissa Cowards was also taken to a hospital after she complained of pains. The authorities believe that a rear tire blowout might have caused the crash, and no intoxicating substance contributed. They will confirm it after their investigation, which remains active.
