The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office released the names of the victims of an auto-train collision in the Lancaster area of California. In the accident report update of Sunday, May 31st, the coroner named 30-year-old Brittan Nolte, and 37-year-old Jeffery Russ as the deceased persons.

The two were residents of Quartz Hill, and they were both in an undisclosed vehicle model when they met their end. The Los Angeles County Fire Department said in the preliminary accident report that the fatal collision occurred on Friday morning, May 29th, at approximately 5:14 a.m.

Nolte and Russ’ car was struck by a freight train in the area of Avenue I and Sierra Highway. The investigators are not sure if the two were driving through the tracks or were stationary when the accident occurred.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, and there is currently no new information.

An auto-train crash is one of the common types of accidents, and it always ends fatally for those in the vehicle it collides with. Most train passengers are usually unhurt in a collision unless there’s a derailment.

Facts gathered from accident reports show that the latter is a cause of railroad accidents, and defective tracks, stalled cars on rails, and unprotected railroad crossings are also contributing factors. Drivers should stay away from train tracks, and if they must cross, they should use the designated marked crossings with functional signs.
