On Monday, June 22nd, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office released the name of the woman who died after her bike crashed near Citrus Heights, California. The updated accident report revealed 39-year-old Shanel Griffin of Sacramento as the victim.
The accident happened early Sunday morning, June 21st, at about 12:20 a.m. on Interstate 80. According to the North Sacramento-area California Highway Patrol, the crash involved several vehicles, and the coroner listed Griffin’s death as a hit-and-run.
The woman was riding a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle westbound on the interstate west of Greenback Lane when the collision took place. The Investigators have not released the facts leading to it, and the cause is also unknown at this time.
Griffin suffered multiple life-threatening injuries and passed away 90 minutes after she arrived at an undisclosed area hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and the CHP wants witnesses to come forward and give their statements.
Facts gathered from accident reports show that most people involved in motorcycle crashes pass away from the injuries sustained. The body has little or no coverage when it ejects from a bike and lands on the roadway, hence the high death rate of motorcycle accidents.
To reduce the number, the California Department of Motor Vehicles advises riders to always wear protective apparel and helmets certified by the US Department of Transportation. Additionally, a motorcyclist should know his or her motorcycle, have the model that fits him or her, get familiar with the bike controls, and always carry out safety checks.
