The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified David Birt, 33, as the pedestrian killed in a traffic accident in Apple Valley, California. The coroner confirmed the victim’s identity in updates to the accident report released on Monday, September 28th.
The crash happened at about 9:19 p.m. on Friday, September 25th, on State Highway 18 and Mandan Road. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said their preliminary investigation revealed that the incident involved a blue Chrysler Town and Country.
The vehicle was eastbound on State Highway 18, when it struck Birt, who walked in the same direction. When paramedics and deputies with the sheriff’s department arrived at the scene, they found the man unresponsive and pronounced him dead at about 9:32 p.m.
The sheriff’s officials said that they evaluated the vehicle driver and he did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The collision led to the highway’s closure from Tao Road to Rim Rock Road for approximately four hours while deputies collected evidence and cleared the scene.
