David Hopfner Identified as Cyclist Killed in Concord Car-Motorcycle Crash

David Hopfner

Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who was killed two weeks ago after he was struck by a car while riding through an intersection in Concord, California. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office, on Monday, April 27, disclosed the victim’s name as David Hopfner, 18. The reports, however, did not indicate the involvement of a motorcycle accident attorney.

The tragic crash happened at about 7:15 am on Friday, April 17, at the intersection of Clayton Road and Heather Drive, police said.

Investigators determined that David Hopfner was traveling through the west traffic lanes of Clayton Road, in the direction of Heather Drive, in his motorcycle. Just as he entered the road intersection, an approaching vehicle, driven by a 46-year-old Pittsburg man, fatally struck the victim.

When paramedics arrived, they discovered the 18-year-old dead at the scene. The reports did not clarify which of the vehicles had the right of way at the time of the collision.

Meanwhile, the motorist that struck the cyclist, whose name was withheld, pulled over and waited at the crash site until law enforcement arrived. He cooperated with officers without incident. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to have contributed to the traffic collision. The reports did not specify whether charges were filed.

The wreck shut down one lane each in all directions of Clayton Road for hours while police conducted the necessary on-site investigations. Anyone with helpful information regarding the crash is advised to contact the Concord PD traffic Unit.

In cases like this, it is important for the victim’s family to contact a motorcycle accident attorney to conduct an independent investigation. The legal representative can also ensure that loved ones are duly compensated for their loss.
