David Mattie Killed in Car Accident After Running a Red Light in East Bay

Authorities have identified the 52-year-old man who died last week Wednesday in East Bay, California, after jumping the stop signal on the traffic light and colliding with another vehicle. The California Highway Patrol, on Tuesday, March 31, named the victim as David Mattie, a resident of Pittsburg.

The deadly crash, which left the three occupants of the other vehicle injured, including a teenage male, was reported at about 9:45 pm on Wednesday, March 25.

Responding officers determined that the fatal victim was driving east on Highway 4 when he approached a traffic light with its red signal up at a road intersection in the Antioch area.

The motorist failed to yield to the stop signal, and drove on to the exit ramp of the highway, at Contra Loma Boulevard, where it broadsided another car, which had the right of way at the time of the crash.

The impact of the crash caused fatal injuries to the Pittsburg man, who was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.

Meanwhile, the operator of the other vehicle involved, an eighteen-year-old man from Antioch, whose name was withheld, suffered major, but non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The two passengers riding alongside the 52-year-old in the car sustained minor injuries, and were treated on the scene by paramedics, and discharged without fuss. Their names were not disclosed in the accident reports.

No other information was released regarding the fatal two-vehicle crash.
