Richard Bryant Ejected From SUV in Rollover Accident

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a rollover accident on April 19 at approximately 4:30 p.m. The accident occurred at the intersection of Old State Road and Clare Road, just west of Sycamore. They arrived to find a man ejected from an SUV.

Authorities later identified the ejected driver of the SUV as 64-year-old Richard Bryant of DeKalb. The preliminary reports indicate that Bryant left the road at the intersection. His vehicle then began to roll, and he was ejected. Police have been able to determine that Bryant was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The DeKalb County Coroner’s Office pronounced Bryant dead at the scene of the accident. The coroner was not able to determine at the scene if drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident. The results of the toxicology report will determine if there was anything in Bryant’s system during the accident.

Bryant was the sole occupant of the SUV at the time of the accident. Alcohol is not always the only cause of a rollover accident. Distraction or vehicle defects could be factors, as well. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is currently asking for any witnesses of the accident to come forward.

The accident is still under investigation at this time. More information will become available, pending the results of the toxicology reports. Wearing a seatbelt in any kind of accident, especially a rollover accident, is one way to ensure safety. Although it may not have saved Bryant’s life, it is possible that he would not have been ejected from the vehicle.
