The Los Angeles Police Department identified the man who died in an auto-pedestrian accident in the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. On Friday, July 17th, they revealed the victim’s name as David Carbajal, 58, a city resident.
The accident report showed that the pedestrian was on Huntington Drive west of Portola Avenue when a vehicle struck him. It happened at about 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15th. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was outside a marked crosswalk when a 2012 Hyundai Acura struck him.
The LAPD said that medics rushed Carbajal to USC’s hospital, where he passed away while receiving treatment. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
Auto-pedestrian accidents in California is on the rise and getting worse daily. The Cal-Office of Traffic Safety traces the problem to more people choosing to walk to places rather than using a vehicle. It also states that the issue lies at the feet of the drivers as well as pedestrians.
The two can work together to prevent an auto-pedestrian collision, and one of the ways to achieve this is by following the safety tips provided by the OTS. Some of it includes pedestrians wearing bright colors, using a flashlight when walking at night, and drivers ensuring that they stop at crosswalks and always maintain the speed limit.
