Elderly Man Injured by Kurt Matzinger Who Has History of Battery

Deputies received a call about an assault incident that occurred on March 8. The incident was between 59-year-old Kurt Matzinger and a 79-year-old unnamed elderly gentleman.

The situation began when the unnamed elderly gentleman drove around a public transit bus that was on the 21600 block of Sandia Road in Apple Valley. Matzinger was upset because the bus was unloading disabled citizens.

The victim of the altercation told the deputies that Matzinger had pushed him, then punched and kicked him several times. The deputies could confirm this by looking at the man. He had a black eye. Both of his eyes, his face, and his head were bruised and swollen.

The man was taken to St. Mary’s Medical by ambulance services. His condition has not been updated since the initial story was released.

The deputies took Matzinger to High Desert Detention Center, where they booked him for battery with serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse.

Elder abuse is a severe offense in California. PC 368 (B)(1) can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony. The jail time sentenced for this offense alone can carry up to four years.

Based on records, in September of 2019, Matzinger received another battery charge. The charge specified that the battery was on a spouse, cohabitant, or a former spouse. Now he is receiving his second charge within a year for battery.

At the time of the news release, Matzinger was being held on a $100,000 bail. He was due to be arraigned during the next week.
