Elver Cruz Identified as Teenager Killed in Los Angeles Freeway Crash

Elver Cruz

Authorities have identified the teenager who was killed last week in a traffic collision in Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner’s Office released the fatal victim’s identity on Monday, May 18, as 17-year-old Elver Cruz.

Officers responded to the traffic wreck shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14. Witnesses called to report a traffic collision on 110 Freeway that left at least two casualties in its wake. It is not clear at this time if the accident involved other vehicles, or if it was a solo crash.

The force of the collision ejected the teenager from the vehicle through the window. Investigators said Elver Cruz was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck. First responders pronounced the teenager deceased at the scene upon their arrival.

Initial reports affirmed that Cruz’s brother was also present in the vehicle with him when the crash happened. The young man, name withheld, suffered major injuries and medics rushed him to a hospital for treatment.

The accident reports failed to disclose which of the brothers was operating the vehicle, or the circumstances leading to the crash. No other information regarding the incident is available at this time.

The CHP is investigating to determine the cause and liability of the fatal occurrence.

A GoFundMe page created by the deceased’s family to facilitate the funeral arrangements, confirmed that both boys were residents of Los Angeles with their grandmother. Their parents are in Mexico.
