The report disclosed that the man was unloading logs from his truck at around noon when the incident happened. It occured in a lumber yard near California and Cornelia. Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said that one of the logs fell on Fleming, fatally injuring him.

Every year, logging routinely occupies the first or second position as the statistical winner for the most dangerous profession in the United States. There are numerous severe injuries from logging accidents, and it sometimes ends in the death of the victim as loggers are always at remote locations far from medical care.

About a quarter of logging accidents occur from logs, limbs, or entire trees falling on an individual. Others arise from incidents like chainsaw kickbacks, whiplash from tree limbs and saplings, and rolling logs. The height and weight of the preceding increase the severity of the injuries.

Loggers can avoid this type of incident by taking safety measures while logging. Check for dead limbs amongst targeted trees, observe wind conditions, and clear falling areas before cutting. Emphasize safety precautions with less experienced loggers, and be at high alert at all times.
